Info About Centipede

Atari released Centipede in 1980. Centipede sends a long worm through a field of mushrooms. Segments clear a mushroom block and then drop one row. Players blast every segment with a shooter at the bottom. Any contact with the worm ends the session.

The shooter slides left and right across the soil. Press the fire button to send bullets upward. Mushrooms stand in the way of each shot. A bullet removes a mushroom on impact. Spiders appear at the sides and race across the screen. Players dodge each insect to avoid losing a life.

Challenge grows with every cleared worm. Speed jumps and segments hit harder in later rounds. Atari later rolled out home and portable versions. Fans still play this worm shooter today. People try other retro shooters and Apple Shooter Champion.
